Fall is great! Tree leaves are colorful, pumpkins are everywhere, and the weather is oh-so-nice! Enjoying the current season in all its fall festivities is a seasonal requirement for many. But bear in mind, as you enjoy these activities, don’t forget about the seasonal aspects that every homeowner should stay on top of when it comes to their house and plumbing. We think it would be great to utilize the following points from your Canal Winchester Plumbing & Drain licensed plumbers. Doing so will steer you in the right direction concerning your fall plumbing maintenance checklist.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO TO COMPLETE YOUR FALL PLUMBING MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST?

NUMBER 1: USE PIPE INSULATION- It’s not a surprise that Ohio’s winter can be a bit relentless. So, one thing to keep in mind is your plumbing fixtures and pipes. If they are located in an open, unheated area such as your basement, garage, or even a crawlspace, it’s a good idea to encase your pipes in pipe insulation. We think this is a fantastic fall plumbing project that you may safely take on before winter comes around. As a bonus, any local home improvement store should have a pipe insulation kit you can purchase at a reasonable price.

NUMBER 2: DOUBLE-CHECK FOR LEAKS & DRIPPING- Because the weather is ideal, now is the most optimal time to check for drips and leaks in your home. Ohio winters can get quite cold! So, you shouldn’t delay inspecting for leaks and drips while the weather is suitable.  Stay proactive and remain two steps ahead at all times because plumbing disasters can result in costly repairs!

NUMBER 3: INSPECT YOUR WATER HEATER- Typically, water heaters need to be serviced by a professional plumber at least once annually. When homeowners do this, it ensures the water heater is operating at its highest capacity. Additionally, It is also the best form of preventative maintenance you can enforce for your water heater. It’s probably safe to assume that the last thing you want is to be hit by a stream of ice-cold water right as you’re stepping in the shower. That’s a winter woe we don’t recommend!

NUMBER 4: CLEAN OUT GUTTERS- Fall leaves will quickly accumulate and build up in your gutters during this season. When this happens, it turns into an unpleasant pile of muck, creating an obstruction that will keep your gutters and drains from performing properly. You can keep this from occurring by determining to clear out the loose leaves and outdoor debris from your gutters.

NUMBER 5: PUT UP THE GARDEN HOSE- Yardwork – do you enjoy it? If not, then you’re in luck! The fall season does not require as much lawn and yard maintenance as it does in the summer. This means it is time to put up your yard and lawn tools for the season! But don’t forget about your garden hose in the process. Garden hoses are often overlooked, but they are important to remember because you don’t want the freezing temperature to cause water in the hose to burst it. Therefore, is imperative to remember to disconnect it, drain it, and put it up for the season.

NUMBER 6: CHECK ALL OUTDOOR FAUCETS- This last step aligns well with the previous point. Don’t forget about those outdoor faucets and fixtures too. If you have several located outdoors, don’t forget to check and turn them off. We still suggest checking all outdoor faucets even if you have not used them this past summer. It never hurts to double-check!
